2008 RESOLVE FUNDING ANNOUNCED

Prairieaction Foundation is pleased to announce its annual grant to the Research & Education for Solutions to Violence and Abuse Network (RESOLVE) in the amount of $200,000. The annual grant is allocated to the administration and operational costs of the research network. With this announcement, the Foundation has now provided almost 1.4 million in support of RESOLVE’s research. For every dollar donated to RESOLVE by the Foundation, RESOLVE reports that six dollars are generated from other grants. 2008 CARE GRANTS FOR COMMUNITY-BASED ORGANIZATIONS

Prairieaction Foundation also recently approved $81,700 in grants to community-based organizations through our Community Action, Research and Education Grants Program (CARE). The CARE Grants Program provides research funding for grassroots, community-based organizations and projects that are developing potential solutions to ultimately eliminate the issues and impacts of family violence and abuse. PRAIRIEACTION FOUNDATION APPOINTS ARTIST-IN-RESIDENCE

The Board of Directors of Prairieaction Foundation has recently appointed Teresa Posyniak as artist-in-residence. This new partnership will work to increase public awareness of the work of Prairieaction and the issue of violence and abuse through Teresa’s art practice. Teresa commented on her new role:

“It has always been a challenge for me to combine the solitary practice of art-making, with the intense involvement with people required in social activism. However, following these parallel tracks throughout my career have resulted in many paintings, drawings and sculptures that would not have occurred otherwise. I'm confident that my relationship with the Prairieaction Foundation will result in new connections and explorations.”

Teresa’s art career has spanned over 25 years, exploring issues related to vulnerability and resiliency in contemporary society. She has previously donated artwork to Prairieaction and has also completed a commission of 16 paintings for HomeFront Calgary. Her artwork has also appeared on the covers of several RESOLVE books on violence and abuse issues. Her sculpture, “Lest We Forget”, dedicated to 135 murdered Canadian women, was installed in 1994 at the University of Calgary Law School.

Teresa has already begun her work as artist-in-residence by participating on a judging panel for a poster contest for the Turn Off the Violence initiative in Calgary. The campaign encourages non-violent solutions to bullying and harassment in schools, communities and homes. During the judging and award event Teresa spoke briefly about the work of Prairieaction Foundation and shared our bookmark with students and parents. We look forward to many more opportunities to work with Teresa to raise awareness of the work of Prairieaction Foundation through her art.
